The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has intercepted a massive consignment of Canadian Loud, a highly potent strain of cannabis, weighing more than 4,100 kilograms at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos.
The agency says the seized drugs, valued at over ten billion naira, were concealed inside a used Ford bus and a Mercedes-Benz car packed in a shipping container traced from Toronto, Canada, through Morocco, before arriving in Lagos earlier this month.
NDLEA officials say the operation followed more than two months of intelligence gathering and surveillance carried out in collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, the United Kingdom Home Office International Operations, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The seizure comes just days after NDLEA operatives raided a mansion in Lekki, Lagos, where over 2,300 kilograms of the same substance were recovered.
Speaking during the handover of the seized drugs, the Director of Seaports Operations, Assistant Commander General Ibinabo ArchieAbia, described the interception as a major breakthrough against transnational drug trafficking.
Chairman of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Buba Marwa, retired, commended officers involved in the operation, warning that Nigeria’s ports will not be allowed to serve as entry points for international drug syndicates.
