Ebola Alert: FAAN Steps Up Passenger Screening Across Nigerian Airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, says preventive measures have been strengthened across the country’s international airports following the recent Ebola outbreak reported in parts of Central Africa.

FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Henry Agbebire, said the authority is working closely with Port Health Services, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, and other agencies to intensify passenger surveillance, especially for travellers arriving from high-risk areas.

According to him, passengers are being screened for Ebola-related symptoms, while any suspected case will be isolated immediately for further medical checks in line with national and international health guidelines.

He added that FAAN has also stepped up staff sensitisation and emergency response procedures to ensure rapid action if necessary.

Mr. Agbebire, however, reassured the public that there is currently no confirmed case of Ebola in Nigeria and urged passengers to remain calm and cooperate with health screening officials at airports.
