Nigeria’s aviation sector has received a major boost as the African Development Bank appointed the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, as Africa’s champion for a new continental aviation investment programme valued at seven billion dollars.
The appointment follows what the bank described as Nigeria’s strong leadership and policy reforms aimed at transforming the aviation industry.
The programme, known as the Integrated Aviation Transformation Programme for Africa, is designed to modernize the continent’s aviation sector and attract major investments to improve infrastructure and airline operations across Africa.
As part of the initiative, the African Development Bank and Nigeria are expected to sign a Letter of Intent at the bank’s annual meeting in Brazzaville on May twenty-eighth, twenty twenty-six.
The bank says it is counting on Keyamo’s experience and commitment to help drive the aviation transformation agenda across the continent, especially as African airlines currently account for less than three percent of global air traffic despite Africa’s large population.
