Mr Bigger’s “Japaa” Sparks Debate on Nigeria’s Youth Exodus

Veteran songwriter, theatre artist, linguist, entrepreneur, and gospel musician, Mr. Bigger Ibekwe, popularly known as MR BIGGER, has released a new single titled “Japaa,” an Afrobeat-inspired song that addresses the growing trend of Nigerian youths migrating to foreign countries in search of better opportunities.

According to the artist, the song explores the dilemma created by the increasing desire among young Nigerians to leave the country, raising concerns about the long-term impact on Nigeria’s future workforce and leadership.

He described “Japaa” as a thought-provoking yet entertaining track designed to spark conversations while keeping listeners on the dance floor.

MR BIGGER noted that the song serves as a passionate appeal to Nigerian youths to consider staying and contributing to national development.

He said the message is also directed at policymakers and leaders, urging them to create an enabling environment that will encourage young people to build their futures at home rather than seeking opportunities abroad.

Known for using music to address social issues, MR BIGGER has previously released songs such as “One Nigeria,” which advocates national unity and condemns corruption and nepotism; “Yahoo-Yahoo,” which speaks against internet fraud and the stereotyping of Nigerian youths; and “Umuaka (Children),” which promotes the values of education and responsible upbringing.

Speaking on the inspiration behind “Japaa,” the artist, also known as “Oti-Nkpu Jesus” in gospel music circles, expressed concern over what he described as the mass departure of Nigeria’s able-bodied workforce.

He warned that the country could face serious consequences if the trend continues unchecked and pledged his willingness to collaborate with government agencies, organisations, and stakeholders to amplify the message and promote solutions.
