The Lagos State Government has commenced the Project Management, Operations and Design Consultancy phase of the Omi Eko Project as part of efforts to modernise water transportation across the state.
Speaking at the project’s consultancy kick-off meeting in Lagos, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, described the initiative as a significant milestone in the state’s drive to develop a modern, efficient and sustainable water transport system.
Osiyemi said the Omi Eko Project is designed to improve connectivity across Lagos waterways, reduce travel time, enhance passenger safety and stimulate economic activities through the development of modern infrastructure and the introduction of electric ferry services.
He noted that the successful implementation of the project would depend on effective collaboration among the Lagos State Government, development partners, consultants, contractors and host communities.
The Commissioner also acknowledged the support of the French Development Agency (AFD), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Union (EU) for their contributions to the state’s sustainable urban mobility programme.
Also speaking, the Head of Delegation and Director of the International Unit at Planet SA, Dimitris Galanis, reaffirmed the consultancy firm’s commitment to providing project management, operational planning and technical expertise to support the successful delivery of the Omi Eko Project.
