Ex-Super Eagles’ Stars Play Novelty Match To Honour Tinubu at Seventy

Some Nigeria’s ex-international football players have defeated the Asiwaju team two nil in a novelty match to mark the seventieth birthday of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Asiwaju Tinubu who kicked off the ball for the commencement of the novelty match at Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena, Onikan, on Sunday, will clock 70 on March 29.

match

The ex-internationals team which was captained by Austin JJ Okocha, also comprised Kanu Nwankwo, Mutiu Adepoju, Peter Rufai, Ike Shorunmu, Uche Okechukwu,Tijani Babangida, Garba Lawal, Victor Ikpeba, Ifeanyi Udeze and Taribo West, while the Asiwaju Team, captained by the Speaker of the State Assembly, Chief Mudashiru Obasa had former football stars of Lagos based clubs and some internationals, including John Dosu, Obafemi Martins, Waheedi Akanni Godwin Okpara, Friday Ekpo, Sanni Doherty, Akeem Ogunlade, Wasiu Ipaye, Taiwo Oloyede, Yusuf Ayinla and others.

Earlier, another match which ended in a one-one draw was played by members of the Lagos State cabinet, members of the State Assembly and local government chairmen against Lagos representatives in Abuja.

The event was attended by the State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his Deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare, and some Sports enthusiasts across the State

The Novelty Football Match organised by the Tinubu support group is part of a series of activities lined up for Asiwaju’s birthday.
