Grassroot Governance Identified As Key To Nation Building

The importance of community involvement in governance and nation-building has been emphasised, with the grassroots remain the foundation for producing and electing leaders at various levels of government.

Former Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, Comrade Ayodele Adewale, made the submission this while featuring on Issues in the News, a Radio One programme.

Comrade Adewale urged Nigerians to actively participate in local government affairs, monitor their representatives and hold them accountable.

He called on the Media to be proactive in discharging its duty as the watchdog of the society by exposing developmental challenges affecting communities and investigating how government allocations meant to address them are being utilised.

Comrade Adewale charged local government authorities to uphold transparency by disclosing how public funds are spent and providing residents with regular updates on projects and achievements.

He noted that stronger collaboration between communities and local governments would enhance governance, improve service delivery and drive sustainable development at the grassroots.
