Lagos unveils interactive job portal; seeks more youth entrepreneurs

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has launched the Lagos Market Information System, LMIS, in a bid to reduce unemployment in Lagos.

The LMIS Is a network of stakeholders and an online platform to communicate data and information related to the job market in Lagos.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who unveiled the LMIS online platform at the third edition of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, LSETF, summit on Victoria Island, said the development was part of his administration’s commitment to empower the youths.

The Governor who admitted inadequate data collection for employability and efficiency of the Employment Trust Fund in creating employment challenged the Fund to make data available to build investors confidence and trust to do more.

In a keynote address, a foremost banker, Mr Fola Adeola, said the government and well meaning private individuals should shift attention to helping the youths become entrepreneurs and employers of labour to bridge the unemployment gap at the grassroots.

Mr Adeola said spending tax payers money to create jobs was a smart investment that would yield more tax revenue, with a call on the government to go beyond lip service and do the needful to create more employment for the teeming youths.

Earlier, the acting Executive Secretary, LSETF, Mrs Feyisayo Alayande, said the summit was necessary to scale up efforts in creation of decent jobs to meet the growing challenge of youth unemployment.

The LMIS was unveiled with sixty thousand interviews for those seeking employment in various sectors.
