Presidency Underscores Importance of National Sports Festival in Moulding Champions

President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his administration’s commitment towards continued investment in Nigeria’s sports development.

The president made this known today in Abuja where he flagged off the Torch of Unity movement which officially signals the commencement of the 2022 National Sports Festival in Delta state

Represented by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the President expressed his delight over the forthcoming Festival which he described as the engine room for producing great champions that will represent the country at International Competitions.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare stated that the Torch of Unity Movement will travel round the 36 States of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory and will finally arrive in Delta which is the host State of the Festival.

Also speaking, the Executive Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa assured of the States’ readiness to deliver the best Festival that will culminate into an outstanding 2024 Olympic outing for Nigeria.

Over 16,000 athletes from across the country will converge on Delta State to compete for medals in 40 sports from November 2 to 15, 2022.
