Heartbreak as Nigeria Slump to Colombia in Women’s U17 World Cup Semifinal

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, failed to make it to the final of the ongoing World Cup in India after losing on penalties today to their Colombian counterparts.

In today’s semifinal, the Powerpuff girls as the Colombians are also known as beat the Flamingos 6-5 on penalties after a goalless outing in normal time.

Nigeria was a kick away from victory after Yesica Munoz saw her kick saved by Flamingos’ 2nd keeper Jiwuaku whilst Gabriela Rodriguez, Stefania Perlaza, Mary Espitaleta and Linda Caicedo scored for Colombia.

Immaculata Offiong, Etim Edidiong, Miracle Usani and Taiwo Afolabi scored for Nigeria.

But defender Omamuzo Edafe, who had scored Nigeria’s winner against USA in the quarter-finals, struck her potential game winning kick against the upright.

In sudden death, Juana Ortegon scored just as Shakirat Oyinlola, but after Nathalia Hernandez beat Jiwuaku while Comfort Folorunsho hit her kick into the outstretched hands of the Colombian goalie Luisa Agudelo.

Ecstatic Powerpuff giirls of Colombia.

Nigeria will now play the second Semifinal loser between Germany and Spain in the tournament’s bronze medal game Saturday.
