2023 NUJ  PRESS WEEK: Nigeria’s Unity Non-Negotiable; Traditional Leaders Affirm.

It was glitz and glamour as the Cultural Day of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Lagos Council played host to personalities from all walks of life, who were beautifully adorned in colourful traditional attires.

The event which was held on Thursday inside the premises of Lagos Television had Journalists from no fewer than 15 media houses in attendance, as they gather to celebrate NUJ Cultural Day; the first of its kind in the history of the gathering.

Declaring the event open, the Chairman, of NUJ Lagos Council,  Mr.Adeleye Ajayi specially recognised the presence of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Lagos State, Mr. Olumide Sogunle, Religious Leaders and a Delegation of South West Leaders of Nigeria Union of Journalists, led by the B Zone Vice President, Mrs. Ronke Samo.

” I welcome you distinguished guests to today’s cultural event, which is the first of its kind in the history of  Lagos NUJ. Nigeria is a country blessed with rich cultural values, and as such, we must continue to project our culture from time to time, because it tells so much about our history and togetherness “.

Ajayi also lauded the commitment and doggedness of Journalists of Lagos Council for an impressive turnout.

“I am glad to see beautiful faces of fellow Journalists here in the present. Regardless of the fact merry-making is highly demanding, we must make-out time to relax and unwind.

” Today is all about merry making and we are here to celebrate the rich culture of Nigeria ” He added

Speaking at the event, Ohaneze Ndigbo  Lagos President, Chief Sunday Ossai called for a United Nigeria.

” Nigeria’s Unity is paramount  of us all and we cannot afford to be divided. If Nigeria is good, it will be good for all of us” he buttressed.

Ohaneze Ndigbo appealed to the Nigerian Government to reposition the country, while stressing the need to have a country that the citizenry will be proud of.

Chief Ossai further commended the leadership of NUJ Lagos Council for putting such event together.

” I also want to specially commend and appreciate NUJ for this opportunity. We are glad to be here and we will continue to support you because Nigeria belongs to all of us”

 Meanwhile, HRH Edidem Atakpa 1 Association of Akwa Cross Indigenes, in Lagos and Patron CMC Gladiators of Africa urged Nigerians to live in peace and love, adding that no society can thrive without unity.

“Nigerians should come together so that the country will be good for all of us” he posited

The Cultural Day was spiced with local delicacies of different tribes and dance steps from different cultural troupes amongst others.
