2024 Women’s Day: Sanwo-Olu promises more social inclusion for Lagos women

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says his administration is committed to youth development, social inclusion and gender equality as it creates a society where every one can achieve their full potential.

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, said this at an event organised at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, by the Lagos State Ministry for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to mark the 2024 International Women’s Day Celebration, with the theme: “Count Her In: Accelerating Gender Equality Through Economic Empowerment” with the hashtag Inspire Inclusion.

He also called on leaders to invest in the course of women to accelerate the development of the state and Nigeria.

The Wife of the Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, urged governments to continue to prioritise the investments in women and give them equal opportunities as she also called on them to be creative, innovative, as well as encourage one another.

In her address, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Cecilia Dada, thanked the Governor Sanwo-Olu’s led administration for its commitment to championing the right and well-being of women, as well as ensuring they have the right tools, skills and opportunities they need to thrive and succeed.

Also Speaking, the All Progressives Congress Women leader, Lagos State, Mrs Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, urged women to be encouraged in spite of challenges while calling on governments to further invest in them.

The Keynote Speaker, Professor Mopelola Omoegun, said there was need for women to be educated, empowered economically, as well as agents of positive change.

She also urged governments to give women the right position in the society.
