Goggle Unveils Al Mode, Transforming Search in Africa

Google has rolled out AI Mode in Search for users in Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, marking a new era of AI-powered search designed to be more intuitive, comprehensive, and helpful.

The new feature allows users to handle complex, multi-part questions with ease, offering smarter responses, multimodal inputs, and deeper topic exploration. Powered by a custom version of Google’s Gemini 2.5 model, AI Mode enhances reasoning and context understanding, making Search more conversational and insightful.

According to Alex Okosi, Google Africa’s Managing Director, the launch reflects the company’s commitment to reimagining how people interact with information. “With AI Mode, users can ask nuanced questions and explore content more effectively, whether they’re planning a trip or learning something new,” he said.

One standout feature is query fan-out reasoning, which breaks down a user’s question into subtopics, enabling a more thorough exploration of the web. AI Mode is also multimodal, allowing people to search naturally—through text, voice, or images—by simply typing, speaking, or uploading a photo.

Importantly, Google emphasizes that AI Mode remains rooted in its quality and ranking systems, ensuring credible results while supporting the open web. Users will not only find answers more efficiently but also discover a broader range of content.
