819 Forest Guards Graduate, Begin Deployment Across Kebbi Forests

Kebbi State has bolstered its security framework with the graduation of 819 National Forest Guards trained to secure forest reserves against criminal activities.

The guards completed an intensive nine-week training programme at Kalgo Local Government Area, as authorities renewed calls for citizens to support security agencies through timely intelligence sharing and cooperation.

Speaking at the passing-out ceremony on Saturday, Deputy Governor Umar Tafida urged communities and traditional institutions to collaborate closely with the newly deployed guards, stressing that local cooperation remains vital in tackling banditry and forest-based crimes.

The recruits were trained in early warning detection, patrol operations, ambush tactics, and the handling of AK-47 rifles.

Their training was jointly supervised by the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the military, reflecting a coordinated national security strategy.

Tafida said the forest guards would complement existing security formations and deny criminal groups access to forest reserves as hideouts and operational bases.

Representing the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia disclosed that the guards would be deployed immediately to ungoverned spaces and vulnerable forest corridors.

He noted that Kebbi is one of seven states selected for the pilot phase of the National Forest Guard initiative, with Arewa, Augie, Dandi and Danko-Wasagu among the participating local government areas.

Residents across Kebbi State have expressed optimism that the deployment will weaken bandit networks and restore safety to rural communities long affected by insecurity.

If you want, I can also tighten it further for wire format, localize it for Kebbi audiences, or adapt it for social media or press release use.
