The Lagos State Government has appealed to parents and guardians to be more mindful of their children and wards, by providing them a safe and loving environment at home.
Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo made the plea on Sunday after a Thanksgiving service at the Chapel of Christ The Light Alausa to mark this year’s Children Day with the theme: More Money for Primary Education.
“Their success in life, a lot of it resides with us in term of enabling environment for study at home, a safe environment within which they can blossom, so I urged parents and guardians to ensure that children are given everything they need to be successful in life. The theme of this year’s celebration is thought provoking and I hope that government’s all over the County will listen and know that if we Fund the foundation, the upper part of education can only be better” she said.
The Commissioner also urged children to take advantage of the opportunities being provided by the State Government reiteratinv that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration is wholly committed to their well being.
In a message, the wife of the Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu who was represented by Mrs Abimbola Odunmbaku noted that education remains the best legacy.
Commending the Ministry of Education for implementing the Sanwo-Olu’s vision for the sector, Mrs Sanwo-Olu enjoined students and teachers to play their parts.
In a sermon, the Vicar in charge, the Venerable Ezekiel Oluwadare who based his sermon on Proverbs 22 verse 6 and Psalm 11 verse 3, noted that the foundation is very important and that the State’s government’s resolve to invest more in education is commendable.
The Venerable Oluwadare appealed to stakeholders to support government in the provision of quality education.
The Bible readings for the service were taken by the children, while the Chapel’s children choir and the Lagos State School Choral and Orchestra rendered special numbers
The service which also featured the 50th anniversary Thanksgiving of the National Youths Service corps, NYSC, was attended by students and teachers from the six education districts of the State, serving Corps members and officials.
Children’s Day is observed on the 27th of May annually in Nigeria. This year’s observance comes up on Saturday next week
