The Managing Director, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Mr. Ahmed Farouk, has reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to enhancing airspace safety, improving operational efficiency, and promoting staff welfare.
Speaking at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), public lecture, and election of the Nigerian Airspace Agency Engineers (NAAE) in Lagos with the theme: “The ATSEP Mindset for Impact”, Mr. Farouk listed key initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s air navigation system.
He emphasized that these efforts align with the present administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Represented by the Director, Air Traffic Services, Mr. John Tayo, Farouk praised the dedication and expertise of the agency’s technical staff.
He reflected on achievements over the past 15 months, citing significant investments in infrastructure upgrades, improved safety protocols, and enhanced staff welfare.
These improvements include procuring advanced equipment, renovating workspaces, and expanding staff training programs to ensure personnel maintain cutting-edge skills.
In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, Mr. Farouk announced upcoming initiatives to further improve airspace management.
“Investing in new technologies to enhance our surveillance and communication capabilities Developing new training programs to support the development of our team members Enhancing our safety management systems”.
Speaking on the AGM’s theme, “The ATSEP Mindset for Impact,” Mr. Farouk urged staff to adopt a proactive mindset to align with the agency’s mission of delivering a safe, seamless, and efficient air navigation system.
“Our mindset as staff is expected to be tailored towards positively impacting on the set goals and objectives of the Management, at ensuring a safe, seamless, effective and economic air navigation system”.
Director, Safety Electronics and Engineering Services, Mrs. Terese Ihenachor, stressed the importance of Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEPs) prioritizing proactive maintenance, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance to safeguard passengers.
“The ATSEP mindset for impact is a blend of technical expertise, ethical responsibility, and a dedication to growth”.
The President of the Nigerian Airspace Agency Engineers (NAAE), Mr. Seizling Miri, and the Lagos branch chairman, Mr. Bolaji Ahmed, called for improved access to essential tools to enhance their technical duties.
“We need operational vehicles, a good environment that engineers need to make their work easy and make our work successful without that, we can make reasonable impact”, says Miri
“Our work is far from done, we have much to look forward to”, say Bolaji.
They stressed that ATSEPs’ behind-the-scenes work is vital in maintaining the complex systems that ensure safe and efficient air travel.
The event also featured the presentation of awards and the election of new executives to lead the Lagos NAAE branch.
