As part of activities to mark his first anniversary on the throne, the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Epiphany Azinge, has announced the maiden edition of the Asaba International 10KM Road Race, scheduled for October 5, 2025.
The race, featuring both male and female categories, will offer a total prize money of ₦34 million and is open to participants from Nigeria and abroad.
Speaking to sports journalists, the Asagba said the race aims to promote Asaba as a fast-growing metropolis and sporting destination, while boosting local economic activity and showcasing the city’s cultural heritage.
Chairman of the Asaba Sports Promotion Committee, Rtd. Wing Commander Peter Iweze, promised an internationally standard event and praised the monarch’s dedication to sports development.
Consultant and planning committee member Moses Nwanze outlined the race route, which will span iconic locations such as Stephen Keshi Stadium, Anwai Road, and Mariam Babangida Way, ending at the Cenotaph.
He confirmed participation is free, with registration and accreditation required.
Nwanze also hinted that traditional attire and artifacts will add cultural flair to the event.
