The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has successfully sent its firefighters to undergo training at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria.

This move marks a major milestone in the nation’s aviation sector, particularly in the area of fire safety and emergency response.

According to the President, Nigerian Aviation Fire and Safety Association, NAFSA, Comrade Sunday Ugbeikwu in a statement, the training, which is taking place at the Multipurpose Aircraft Fire Simulator facility at NCAT, was made possible through the efforts of the Managing Director, FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku.

The simulator, which was procured by the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, had been lying idle for several years after the training was previously conducted in Douala, Cameroun.

The NAFSA President noted that, Mrs. Kuku’s leadership and determination played a crucial role in ensuring that the simulator was activated and put to use.

The statement adds that, her efforts led to a meeting with the management of NCAT in May 2024, where an agreement was reached to send FAAN firefighters for training at the facility.

The decision, Comrade Ugbeikwu stressed to send firefighters for training at NCAT is a significant achievement for Mrs. Kuku, who has been recognized for her pragmatic and transformational leadership style.

He praised, her passion for improving FAAN’s operations and productivity is evident in her prioritization of staff training.

The training is expected to equip FAAN firefighters with the necessary skills and expertise to handle emergency situations effectively.

This development is also a welcome boost to the nation’s aviation sector, which has been working to enhance safety and emergency response capabilities.
