The Nigeria Armwrestling Federation (NAWF) has unveiled a 172-member national team for the upcoming 14th African Armwrestling Championship, set to take place in Abuja from July 23–27, 2025.
The squad—Nigeria’s largest ever—comprises elite male and female competitors, para-athletes, and promising youth talents, all drawn from the country’s six geopolitical zones.
Final preparations are ongoing at the TDC Camp in Abuja.
Nigeria, which is hosting the championship for the second time, is aiming not just to participate but to dominate the continental stage.
Speaking on the development, NAWF President, Samuel Jackson, described the team as a true representation of Nigerian resilience and unity.
“This team reflects the heart of Nigerian sport—resilient, unified, and battle-ready. From seasoned champions to emerging youth talents, we are poised to deliver not just participation, but dominance. The world will feel Nigeria’s strength and spirit at the armwrestling table this July,” Jackson said.
The Local Organizing Committee (LOC), in collaboration with the NAWF, has secured key partnerships in logistics, branding, and hospitality, setting the stage for what is expected to be a landmark event in African sports history.
With the official mascot and competition jerseys already launched to wide acclaim, and now with a record-breaking team announced, Nigeria is positioning itself as a top contender in this year’s championship.
The 2025 African Armwrestling Championship is expected to feature over 20 participating countries, making it one of the most competitive editions in the tournament’s history.
