The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State, Mr. Lawal Pedro, SAN, has called for the expedited hearing of revenue-related cases in court, warning that prolonged litigation can hamper effective governance and service delivery.
Mr. Pedro made the appeal while delivering the keynote address at the Revenue Recovery Summit themed “Speedy Dispensation of Revenue Cases in Court,” held in Ikeja and organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice.
Highlighting the critical role of revenue in sustaining public services, the Attorney General described it as the “lifeblood” of sectors including healthcare, education, security, waste management, and infrastructure.
“When revenue is locked in endless legal battles, it is the ordinary citizen who suffers the consequences,” he said.
Mr. Pedro emphasized that efficient recovery and use of public funds are essential to achieving the developmental goals of the state, urging legal stakeholders to adopt faster, more coordinated approaches to resolving revenue disputes.
