Lagos Property Owner Petitions IGP Over Alleged Police Collusion with Landgrabbers

A Lagos-based engineer, Olufemi Fasehun, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), accusing the Officer-in-Charge of the Zone 2 Monitoring Unit, CSP Taofik Tijani, of abuse of office and unlawful involvement in a private land dispute.

In the petition dated July 2025, Fasehun alleged that CSP Tijani is working in concert with suspected landgrabbers to forcibly take over his family property at 10 Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja.

According to Fasehun, armed officers led by CSP Tijani invaded the property on three separate occasions—June 4, 5, and 20—without a court order or legal warrant.

The officers allegedly arrested occupants, sealed Paradox Lounge, and shut down a newly completed 14-unit building on nearby Olayiwola Street.

“These actions were carried out without court officials, legal documentation, or any prior invitation to me,” Fasehun stated in the petition.

“I was later informed that the operation was based on a contempt petition filed by one Tajudeen Egunaye.”

He further claimed that the petition is a coordinated attempt by Egunaye and his alleged associate, Tomori Williams—whom he described as known landgrabbers—to dispossess him of the family’s legally owned property, which he says has been in their name for over 60 years.

Fasehun maintained that the referenced court case was discontinued and no fresh legal process was ever served on him.

He recalled a similar failed attempt in 2023 involving the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Alagbon, which dismissed the landgrabbers’ claims after affirming the validity of his title.

Expressing concern over the alleged misuse of police power, Fasehun said, “CSP Tijani never invited me to respond to any complaint. Instead, he moved against my property on the strength of unverified claims.”

He has filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit against both CSP Tijani and the alleged landgrabbers and is calling on the IGP to investigate the Zone 2 Monitoring Unit’s conduct and ensure due process is followed.

As of press time, the Nigeria Police Force has not issued an official response to the allegations.
