Lagos LG Elections Kick Off Amid Light Security Presence, Minimal Restrictions

Voting has commenced across Lagos State today in the much-anticipated Local Government elections, with residents heading to the polls to elect council chairpersons and councillors in all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

Unlike past general elections—including the presidential and gubernatorial polls—this morning began without major roadblocks, and by 6:30am, our correspondent observed light vehicular movement across major routes.

Some commuters were trekking, while a few commercial vehicles were operating, indicating a less restrictive environment.

The election is officially scheduled to begin at 8:00am, with voting to take place in 13,325 polling units across the state.

With over 7 million registered voters and 376 election wards, Lagos maintains its status as Nigeria’s most populous voting bloc.

Although the early morning security presence has been light, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and local authorities are expected to ramp up efforts to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process.

Stay tuned for more live updates as the elections unfold across Lagos.

Shomolu/Bariga

There is total compliance with the no vehicular movement order in the ongoing LG election across Shomolu and Bariga.

Major roads, including Pedro Road, Igbo Olugbin Road, that links both communities, remain clear of traffic.

Youths were seen converting parts of Pedro Road into football grounds, engaging in recreational activities peacefully.

Residents in various parts of Shomolu were also observed holding informal gatherings and house-to-house engagements, discussing community development issues.

The atmosphere remains calm and orderly, with no security breaches.
