The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari were laid to rest on Monday in Daura, Katsina State, amid emotional tributes, solemn prayers, and full state honours.
The Janazah (funeral prayers) were led by former Minister of Communications, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, and observed by close family members, political associates, members of the diplomatic corps, and traditional rulers, including the Emir of Daura.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who described himself as the chief mourner, received dignitaries and mourners at the Daura residence of the late leader, where condolences were offered and tributes paid to the man who handed over power to him in 2023.
As part of the state funeral, the late President was honoured with full military rites, including a 21-gun salute, in recognition of his service to Nigeria as both a military Head of State (1984–1985) and a two-term civilian President (2015–2023).

On the arrival of the casket from the United Kingdom, where Buhari passed away on Sunday, July 13, at the age of 82, President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and visiting foreign dignitaries—including President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau, Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine, former President of Niger Mahamadou Issoufou, and former Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo—were present at the airport to receive the body.
A joint military pallbearer team comprising nine senior officers solemnly wheeled the Nigerian flag-draped casket in slow procession to a ceremonial ground, accompanied by the hymn “God Be With You Till We Meet Again.”
The march passed through a military guard of honour, consisting of six officers and 96 soldiers from the Nigerian Armed Forces.
President Buhari was buried beside his parents in his family mausoleum in Daura, in accordance with Islamic rites, concluding a day of national mourning and reflection.
The late leader is remembered for his discipline, patriotism, and enduring commitment to national service—a legacy that resonated in the tears and prayers of those who came to bid him farewell.
