TCN Sensitises Lagos Communities on Vandalism of Power Infrastructure

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Lagos Region, has launched a public sensitisation campaign to tackle the rising vandalism of its facilities.

The programme, held at the Odogunyan 132kV Transmission Sub-station in Ikorodu, brought together community leaders, security agencies, and industry representatives to highlight the devastating impact of vandalism on electricity supply.

General Manager for the Lagos Region, Mr. Mojeed Akintola, cited a recent incident in Abeokuta where vandals damaged ten transmission towers, adding that such acts place a heavy financial strain on ongoing network improvements.

Principal Manager for Lines, Mr. Seyi Onabanjo, disclosed that the Federal Government has spent ₦88 billion repairing vandalised transmission facilities nationwide since 2021 — funds that could have expanded power access.Security agencies also outlined countermeasures.

NSCDC Divisional Officer Mr. Dokunmu said Lagos State has set up an agency to monitor dumpsite operators and scrap buyers, while Ogijo Divisional Police Officer, Fatoberu Oyekan, urged closer collaboration with community vigilantes.

Community leader, Chief Joseph Giwa, Baale of Ladegboye, called on TCN to strengthen maintenance and security, stressing that political interference often hampers enforcement.
