INEC to Resume Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) This Month

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, beginning with online pre-registration by the middle of this month.

In a statement signed by Mr. Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the commission disclosed that in-person registration will commence a week after the online process begins.

Key Details of the Exercise

– The online and physical registration will run simultaneously for one year, ending on August 30, 2025.

– Registration will take place at 811 centres nationwide, including INEC offices in all 774 Local Government Areas, 37 state offices, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

– The exercise will operate daily (Monday–Friday), excluding public holidays.

– To aid accessibility, INEC will deploy an online CVR Live Locator to help citizens find the nearest registration centres.

New Political Party Applications

The commission also revealed that it has received eight additional letters of intent from associations seeking registration as political parties, bringing the total number to 151.

– Details of the latest applications have been uploaded on INEC’s website.

– The commission has begun shortlisting eligible associations that meet the requirements to proceed to the formal application stage.

This move aligns with INEC’s commitment to enhancing voter participation and ensuring a credible electoral process ahead of future elections.
