Nigeria Medical Association, Lagos Threatens Solidarity Over Salary Deductions

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Lagos State branch, has warned that it will embark on a solidarity strike if the Lagos State Government fails to refund July 2025 salary deductions and ensure full payment of August salaries by August 25.

The warning followed an Emergency General Meeting (EGM), where the association backed the Medical Guild’s 21-day ultimatum to the state government.

NMA Lagos said its members would down tools two weeks after the Medical Guild begins its own strike.

According to a communiqué signed by its chairman, Dr. Saheed Kehinde, the association condemned repeated salary deductions, the absence of call duty meals for doctors at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for over five years, and the non-payment of skipping arrears.

The group stressed that doctors deserved their full wages and urged the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, to intervene swiftly to prevent a crisis in the state’s health sector.
