ICAN Aviation Chapter Unveils Committees, Reinforces Push for ESG in Aviation

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Aviation Chapter has inaugurated five sub-committees to drive stronger engagement and enhance visibility within the aviation sector.

The committees, unveiled at the Chapter’s August special meeting in Lagos, will focus on fundraising, university relations, advocacy, technical development, and government relations.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the ICAN Aviation Chapter, Mr. Ayodele Olatiregun, commended members for their active participation and urged for deeper collaboration among chartered accountants in the industry.

He noted that the sub-committees, with clearly defined goals and performance indicators, are expected to boost participation while positioning the Chapter for greater impact.

The hybrid meeting also featured a technical session led by finance expert Dr. Olumuyiwa Adebayo, who examined the application of key financial ratios and performance metrics in the aviation sector.

He emphasized the need for airlines and aviation stakeholders to strike a balance between financial performance and sustainability priorities, optimize operational costs, and embed Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) frameworks into business strategies.

The session generated robust engagement from members, reinforcing the Chapter’s mission to provide both technical expertise and thought leadership in the sector.

With the inauguration of the sub-committees and the renewed focus on sustainability and collaboration, the ICAN Aviation Chapter says, it is positioning itself as a catalyst for efficiency and growth in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
