One Dead, Two Injured in Ikorodu Road Crash, LASTMA Urges Safer Driving

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the death of one passenger and injuries to two others in a fatal accident that occurred on the Idi-Iroko inward Ogolonto axis of Ikorodu Road, Lagos State.

According to preliminary investigations by traffic and security operatives, the incident involved a fully loaded commercial Mazda bus (registration number LND 490 SD) and a truck (registration number EKY 121 YJ). The crash reportedly occurred when the commercial bus, in a reckless attempt to secure right of way from the Agric axis, collided with the fast-moving truck.

Tragically, one passenger, who was seated at the doorway of the bus, was thrown from the vehicle and crushed under the rear tyres of the truck, resulting in instant death. Two other passengers — a man and a woman — sustained severe injuries and were rescued by LASTMA personnel, supported by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS). The injured victims were rushed to the Ikorodu General Hospital for urgent medical attention.

The remains of the deceased were released to his family by the Nigeria Police Force, while personnel from the Owutu Police Division provided security throughout the rescue and evacuation operation. LASTMA officials promptly cleared the accidented vehicles to restore smooth traffic flow along the busy corridor.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed the Authority’s condolences to the bereaved family and urged motorists to exercise caution, patience, and discipline when driving, particularly along high-traffic routes such as Ikorodu Road.

He reminded residents that traffic incidents and emergencies can be promptly reported to LASTMA through its toll-free, multilingual hotline: 080000527862.
