FG Intensifies Ebola Screening at Borders Amid DRC Outbreak

The Federal Government has intensified monitoring and screening procedures at all points of entry in response to the ongoing outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Director of Port Health Services at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Akpan Nse, disclosed this in Abuja, stressing that Nigeria remained at risk of importing the virus due to frequent international travel with the DRC.

Dr. Nse explained that Port Health Services had strengthened surveillance and employed additional staff to enhance border checks across the country.

Health authorities in the DRC recently declared an outbreak of Ebola in Kasai Province, with 28 suspected cases and 16 deaths, including four health workers recorded as of September 5.

The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health by ensuring early detection and containment measures at Nigeria’s borders.
