Bandits have launched fresh attacks in Kwara and Katsina States, leaving communities in fear and demanding urgent government intervention.
In Kwara, heavily armed attackers stormed a cattle settlement in Ekuku, near the border with Egbe in Yagba West Local Government of Kogi State.
They stole several cows and set ablaze a vigilante vehicle.
A video shared by local security operatives confirmed the attack, showing the destroyed vehicle and appealing for government support.
The assault came barely a day after bandits struck in Kankara, Katsina State, where they kidnapped farmers and seized motorcycles, despite a recent peace deal in the area.
In another incident, Isanlu Isin community in Kwara South was thrown into mourning after armed criminals ambushed vigilantes, killing two, leaving six missing, and burning 27 motorcycles.
The attackers, who had earlier raided Fulani settlements around the area, reportedly lured the vigilantes into an ambush.
Residents, frustrated by the lack of security intervention, blocked the Ilorin–Lokoja highway to draw attention to their plight.
The Isanlu Isin Community Development Association has appealed for urgent government action, including search-and-rescue operations, replacement of destroyed motorcycles, and a full security sweep of surrounding forests.
Meanwhile, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq commended the bravery of community vigilantes in resisting the bandits.
He praised their courage, offered condolences to the family of slain vigilante Saheed Adeshina, and announced a ₦10 million support package for his family.
The governor also promised to replace the destroyed motorcycles, strengthen logistics for local security teams, and disclosed that the Nigerian Army has extended Operation Fansan Yamma to Kwara to support internal security.
