Wakanow, Africa’s leading travel technology company, is charting new territory with bold investments in artificial intelligence (AI) aimed at redefining the travel experience across the continent and beyond.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists at the recently concluded 21st AKWAABA Travel Market/Expo held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, from September 14–16, the company’s Senior Vice President for Global Operations, Olushola Ipinmoroti, outlined Wakanow’s latest innovations and expansion drive.
“We’re investing in AI to simplify processes and cut response times. We’re training a chatbot to attend to customers end-to-end, regardless of their request. We’re also expanding our footprint across Africa and into the diaspora market,” Ipinmoroti said.
Beyond its tech-driven growth, Wakanow is reinforcing its role as a socially responsible brand.
Through its Waka Cares initiative, the company is empowering youth and women by offering free training on travel sales and entrepreneurship, helping participants turn skills into sustainable income.
In addition, Wakanow is intensifying efforts to promote travel insurance awareness, creating customized packages to suit various travel needs and reaching customers through targeted campaigns.
On global travel patterns, Ipinmoroti argued that American destinations are often overrated, stressing the opportunities in Europe, Asia, and within Africa itself.
“Access is easier, travel time is shorter, and value for money is better in other destinations,” she noted.
On how prepared the company is for festive season, she said Wakanow is focusing on inbound tourism, with new offices worldwide to serve Africans in the diaspora as well as international travelers eager to explore Africa.
In the area of unlocking New Routes she noted that the company is also enthusiastic about the recently launched Nigeria–Brazil air route, which Ipinmoroti described as a major opportunity for cultural exchange and trade.
“Nigeria and Brazil have a lot in common culturally, and it’s also a key trade route. We’re keen to take advantage of this and support our customers traveling between the two countries,” she said.
With a blend of AI-driven solutions, social impact programs, and global expansion, Wakanow is positioning itself as a game-changer in the travel industry, committed to delivering seamless and personalized experiences for its growing customer base, this is the Future of Seamless Travel.
