FG Launches Nationwide Measles, Polio, HPV Immunisation Drive

The Federal Government has launched a nationwide campaign for measles, polio, and human papillomavirus (HPV) immunisation, alongside interventions for other neglected tropical diseases.

The campaign, flagged off at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Abuja, aims to eliminate measles by 2030 through strengthened routine immunisation, improved surveillance and outbreak response, and integration of measles and rubella initiatives into primary health care using innovative technologies.

Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Pate, said the exercise is expected to reach about sixteen million children across the country.

According to him, the integrated campaign targets children aged nine to fourteen years with the Measles Rubella vaccine, among other immunisation efforts.

Professor Pate reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving measles elimination goals and strengthening Nigeria’s primary health care system to ensure equitable access to vaccines and disease prevention services.
