Lawmakers to Debate Motion for Nnamdi Kanu’s Medical Care

The House of Representatives is set to debate a motion this week concerning the health of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The decision follows a plenary session on Tuesday where the matter was brought to the floor by Mr. Obi Aguocha, the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency.

Mr. Aguocha raised a point of order, expressing concern that he had not received a response to a letter he previously sent to the House Leadership and the Federal Government.

He appealed for “urgent medical intervention” for Kanu, whose health is reportedly deteriorating. In response, the Speaker of the House, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, advised Aguocha to formally present the issue on another legislative day, noting that the correct procedure had not been followed.

Corroborating the Speaker’s guidance, the Deputy Speaker, Dr. Benjamin Kalu, who also hails from Abia State, affirmed the importance of the subject.

He assured the House that the motion would be properly presented for a full hearing within the week.

“Mr Speaker, I’m also from Abia State. On the issue that is being raised by my colleague, we will present it before the House properly in the course of the week,” Kalu stated.

“We will come properly before the House so that proper hearing will be given to it.”

Speaker Abbas confirmed that the House would be willing and ready to allocate time for the motion to be debated once it is formally presented.
