A non governmental organisation, Giving Tuesday Nigeria has called on Nigerians to embrace generosity as a way of life, emphasizing that kindness and empathy can drive national prosperity.
Speaking at the launch of the “Giving Festival” in Lagos, the Country Lead of the organization, Mrs. Folakemi Adeshina, said the initiative aims to “build a culture of giving that transcends socioeconomic boundaries.”
She explained that the event targeted about 1,500 indigent residents of the Bariga Jetty community, a riverside settlement known for its creativity and resilience despite limited infrastructure.
“We want to show that generosity goes beyond financial contributions—it’s about kindness, empathy, and shared responsibility for one another, especially within underserved communities,” Adeshina said.
The festival featured community outreach programmes, performances by local artists, and exhibitions showcasing stories of impact from within the Bariga Jetty community.
According to Adeshina, the choice of Bariga Jetty was deliberate—to highlight inclusion, celebrate resilience, and promote visibility for marginalized communities.
Giving Tuesday Nigeria is part of the global Giving Tuesday movement, launched in 2012 to encourage acts of kindness and generosity worldwide.
The Nigerian chapter continues to advance this mission through collaborations, campaigns, and community-driven initiatives that uplift lives across the country.
