Nigeria Resumes Direct Abuja–London Heathrow Flights After Years of Hiatus

Direct flights between Abuja and London Heathrow have resumed after several years, marking a major milestone for Nigeria’s aviation industry.

At the launch event held over the weekend, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, highlighted the intensive diplomatic efforts that secured the highly coveted Heathrow slot for Air Peace.

He described the new route as a victory for Nigeria’s reciprocity policy in bilateral air services agreements and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting indigenous carriers.

“The Abuja–Heathrow service is not just a flight; it’s a symbol of national pride and progress,” Keyamo said, noting that it connects Nigeria’s capital to “the connecting capital of Europe.”

Representing the Vice President, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, commended the initiative for boosting competition and improving travel options for Nigerians.

Air Peace Chairman, Dr. Allen Onyema, expressed gratitude to the government for its support, noting that the airline remains committed to maintaining world-class standards and expanding international connectivity.

With this development, Air Peace becomes the first Nigerian airline to operate direct flights from Abuja to London Heathrow — a move expected to enhance global access, strengthen trade relations, and offer more competitive fares for travellers.
