The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to revitalising senior secondary education across the country through massive infrastructural development aimed at improving teaching and learning standards.
Executive Secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), Dr. Iyela Ajayi, gave the assurance during an inspection visit to Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, Ondo State, where three major Federal Government projects are ongoing — a 12-classroom block with modern staff rooms, a 500-seater ultra-modern hall, and an e-library.

Dr. Ajayi explained that similar projects are being executed in five other states as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to reposition secondary education.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, commending the school management for proper supervision.
“The contractor is doing well, and we are pleased with the progress. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is fully committed to the transformation of senior secondary education, particularly through infrastructural development,” he stated.
Principal of Oyemekun Grammar School, Mr. Adeniyi Oluyide, lauded the Federal Government for the initiative, describing it as a welcome development that would greatly impact education in Ondo State.
Earlier, Dr. Ajayi paid a courtesy visit to the State Commissioner for Education, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, where he announced plans to establish a Zonal Office of NSSEC in Ondo State and commended the creation of the State Senior Secondary Education Board.
“The establishment of the Ondo State Senior Secondary Education Board will strengthen collaboration with NSSEC and accelerate the transformation of senior secondary education, equipping our youths with the knowledge, skills, and character needed for national development,” Ajayi said.
In response, Professor Ajibefun reaffirmed the state’s commitment to educational growth and pledged support for NSSEC’s initiatives, noting that Ondo State was eager to collaborate to enhance the quality of education across the nation.
