Sanwo-Olu Inaugurates Abraham Adesanya 233-Unit Housing Project

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday inaugurated the newly completed 233-unit Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate (Parcels A & B) in Ajah, describing it as a major milestone in the state’s quest to expand access to affordable and sustainable housing.

The development, executed through a Public-Private Partnership between the Lagos State Government and Urban Shelter Limited, comprises a mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom flats, terraces and semi-detached homes designed to accommodate various income levels.

Sanwo-Olu said the commissioning was “more than just a gathering of stakeholders,” but a reinforcement of Lagos’ commitment to building a legacy of progressive development in line with the THEMES+ agenda.

He commended Urban Shelter for professionalism and strict adherence to standards throughout the project cycle, which began in 2019, noting that the success demonstrates what is possible when public and private entities collaborate with a unified vision.

The Governor reaffirmed that nearly 12,000 housing units have been added to Lagos’ stock over the past six years, with additional developments nearing completion in Badagry, Ikorodu, Ogombo, Shogotedo Phase II, Ibeshe and the Egan-Igando corridor.

Warning that Lagos can no longer tolerate delays in housing delivery, Sanwo-Olu issued a direct charge to the Ministry of Housing to mount firm pressure on contractors and joint venture partners handling ongoing projects.

“People are watching us, and they urgently need these homes. Our mandate is to do more for our citizens. Any form of delay will not be acceptable,” he said.

Commissioner Reaffirms Housing Sector Reforms

Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, described the unveiling as a landmark achievement reflecting the state’s commitment to reducing its housing deficit.

He said the 233-unit estate represents “careful planning, strategic investment and a relentless pursuit of excellence,” adding that it underscores Lagos’ determination to uplift communities and improve residents’ living conditions.

Akinderu-Fatai praised Urban Shelter as well as the Ministry’s Advocacy and Technical Teams for their diligence and professional oversight. He urged other joint venture partners to raise their performance levels and ensure timely completion of ongoing projects.

He also encouraged private developers—particularly those committed to low-income housing—to collaborate with the state, noting that the Sanwo-Olu administration has consistently demonstrated openness and incentives for credible partnerships.

Governor Urges Residents on Maintenance Culture

During the handover, Sanwo-Olu advised new homeowners to uphold high standards of cleanliness, maintenance and communal harmony.

“You must work together to keep this estate clean and preserve its ambience,” he said. “When government sees this level of maintenance, it becomes encouraged to do more.”

The Governor thanked traditional rulers, stakeholders and residents who attended despite the earlier rainfall, and assured them that housing developments would continue to expand across all local government areas.

He added that the new estate would retain its identity as part of the larger Abraham Adesanya community to maintain continuity and prevent confusion.

“With this commissioning, we are not just delivering homes,” Sanwo-Olu said. “We are building communities and strengthening the future of Lagos.”
