In a bid to bring residents closer to government, the Lagos State government has launched the 2025-2027 Strategic plan and Communication strategy document under the office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement.
At the official launch at Ikeja, Special Adviser, Office of Political Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr Tajudeen Afolabi, the three years Strategic Plan would serve as a blueprint to institutionalize people-centric governance, improve two-way communication between citizens and the government, and drive participatory democracy in Lagos State.
Dr Afolabi who was represented by a Director, Mr Sanya Adepoju, affirmed the commitment of the Sanwo-olu’s administration to advancing government that embodies aspirations, diversity and dynamism in solving residents complaints using technology.
He expressed optimism that the strategy plan and communication strategy would broaden the THEMES plus agenda commitments, from infrastructure
renewal to economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
“Let me state that the success of this plan rests not on its pages in the print media but on its
implementation. The true measure of progress will be seen in how closely government agencies
collaborate, how effectively our teams execute their responsibilities, and how willingly our citizens
embrace the platforms created for them”
“As we move forward, we must carry a shared resolve to keep engagement open, to remain transparent in
our actions and to listen attentively to the people whose lives are shaped by our decisions”. SA said
In an interview with newsmen, the Permanent Secretary Office of Political Legislative and Civic Engagement, Engr Sholabomi Shasore, emphasized that governance is a collective responsibility which demands transparency from government, active
participation from citizens, and cooperation to uphold the democratic values that ensure Lagos remains stable, progressive, and inclusive where every voice counts.
“The rigorous process that shaped this documents reflects the seriousness with which we approach our
mandate, from strategic retreats, to stakeholder consultations, Roundtable discussion, and the technical
support from European Union’s Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) programme and The
International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), the plan stands today as a product of collective wisdom and shared purpose. It embodies not only what we intend to achieve
but also how we intend to achieve it”.

Some of the stakeholders’ at the document launch commended the Office of Political Legislative and Civic Engagement for the rigorous exercise which birth the living document which would bring those at the grassroots closer to government and ensure rapid development across the state.
Executive Director, Centre for Rights and Grassroots Initiative, Comrade Nelson Ekujumi, commended Office of Political Legislative and Civic Engagement for the strategy plan which he noted would advance development at the grassroots.
A Human and Gender Advocate who is always a Lawyer, Mrs Cynthia Mbamalu, advised those in the creative sector to rewrite the story of Lagos projecting the emergency toll free lines and other positive narratives, and that of Nigeria on Media space to regain its lost glory among comity of nations using United States of America as an example that everyone knows 911 as its emergency line in case of any eventuality.
Representatives of Civil Society Organizations, Traditional and Religious leaders, Community Development Associations, Media, Persons with Disabilities among others graced the event.
