Presidential Tax Panel Partners NOA to Tackle Misinformation

The Presidential Committee on Tax Reforms has engaged the National Orientation Agency (NOA) as part of a nationwide enlightenment drive ahead of the implementation of the new Tax Law on January 1, 2026.

Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, revealed that the legislation contains over 50 tax exemption categories designed to stimulate business growth, particularly for small enterprises across the country.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Director-General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, Mr. Oyedele explained that the Committee is intensifying public sensitisation to counter widespread misinformation about the new tax regime.

He described the circulation of false narratives by some individuals as unfortunate and emphasized the need to guide citizens with accurate information.

Responding, Mallam Issa-Onilu welcomed the collaboration, noting that the visit aligns with NOA’s planned national value reorientation and enlightenment campaign.

He disclosed that the Agency is set to launch a Nigerian AI chatbot known as “CLIN”, which will function like ChatGPT and provide verified information about Nigeria on Google.

He added that with over 800 offices nationwide and more than 4,000 personnel, the NOA is committed to reshaping Nigeria’s value system and promoting responsible citizenship.

The visit also featured an exchange of a National Value Plaque and a comprehensive document outlining the provisions of the new Tax Law.
