FCCPC Seals Ikeja Electric Headquarters Over Regulatory Non-Compliance

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed the headquarters of Ikeja Electric Plc following the company’s prolonged refusal to comply with regulatory directives regarding a long-standing customer complaint.

The enforcement operation took place on Thursday at the company’s Alausa office, where FCCPC officials escorted staff out before locking up the facility.

The Director of Surveillance and Investigation at FCCPC, Mrs. Bola Adeyinka, said the action became necessary after Ikeja Electric consistently failed to comply with a Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) ruling.

She was represented by Assistant Director, Mrs. Idayat Olorubebe.

“The company failed to act despite clear directives and several opportunities to comply,” Adeyinka stated.

According to the Commission, NERC had ordered Ikeja Electric to unbundle a Maximum Demand account into 20 separate non-MD accounts—19 residential units and a service point—and provide appropriate metering and connection.

The directive followed a complaint from a customer whose property had been denied power for over two and a half years despite fulfilling payment requirements.

FCCPC: Consumer Left Without Power for 30 Months

The Commission said it issued Ikeja Electric a compliance directive in April 2025 and a compliance notice on October 2, 2025, giving the company seven business days to comply. But the company took no action.

“This enforcement is in accordance with Sections 17, 18, 124, 150 and 155 of the FCCPC Act,” Adeyinka said, adding that sealing the premises was a proportionate last resort.

She explained that the premises would remain sealed until Ikeja Electric fully implements the directives and submits documented evidence of compliance.

Responding to the development, the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Kingsley Okotie, said Ikeja Electric was already addressing the compliance issue and had communicated its reservations to the FCCPC.

“We acknowledge the Commission’s authority but believe the matter could have been resolved without media involvement,” Okotie said.He assured customers that distribution operations would continue unhindered, noting that operational centres were functioning independently of the headquarters.

Service to Customers Uninterrupted

Okotie added that the company remains committed to providing stable power supply across its network and expressed optimism that the issue would be resolved amicably.
