The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has charged Police Public Relations Officers (PROs) across the country to elevate their communication strategies as they convene in Abuja for the 2025 National PROs Conference.
The conference, which opened on December 8 at the Police Resource Centre, Abuja, is themed “Empowering Communication, Enhancing Trust.” It is designed to strengthen strategic communication, sharpen crisis-response mechanisms, counter misinformation, and deepen public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.
Among the delegates is the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC), DSP Musa Isah Umar, representing the Academy in high-level discussions focused on enhancing public information management and improving transparency in police communications.
In his keynote address, the IGP stressed that modern policing requires communication officers who think beyond drafting press releases.
He described PROs as strategic advisers, custodians of institutional reputation, and key drivers of public confidence in police operations.
Egbetokun noted that the credibility of the Nigeria Police Force now rests significantly on the ability of its communication officers to disseminate timely, accurate, and citizen-focused information that fosters accountability and trust.
Officials added that DSP Musa Isah Umar’s participation underscores POLAC’s commitment to advancing its public relations framework in line with global best practices in law enforcement communication.
The conference continues with breakout sessions on intelligence-driven communication, countering disinformation, digital media strategy, and enhancing synergy between police formations and the public.
