Lagos High Court Announces 2025 Christmas Vacation, January Resumption

The High Court of Lagos State has announced its 2025 Christmas vacation, scheduled to run from Wednesday, December 24, 2025, to Friday, January 2, 2026, with normal court sittings resuming on Monday, January 5, 2026.

The vacation was approved by the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, in line with the provisions of Order 49 Rules 4(c) and 5 of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.

A notice dated November 26, 2025, and signed by the Chief Registrar, Mr. T. A. Elias, confirmed that the vacation period covers both dates inclusive.

According to the notice, judges will continue to attend to urgent applications during the vacation.

Urgent matters connected to already assigned substantive cases will be handled by the respective judges, while fresh urgent applications without assigned suits will be heard by judges specifically designated for that purpose.

The notice further clarified that although regular hearings will be suspended, any case certified as urgent may still be heard during the vacation, provided all conditions stipulated under Order 49 Rule 5 are fully complied with.

The Christmas vacation is anchored on the court rules, which empower the Chief Judge to fix vacation periods and ensure that urgent judicial business is not disrupted.
