The Federal Government says it recorded notable progress in the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in 2025, enhancing trade integration and increasing private sector participation across the continent.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, disclosed this in a statement on Nigeria’s AfCFTA implementation progress.
Dr. Oduwole stated that the AfCFTA remains central to Africa’s ambition of creating a unified continental market through tariff liberalisation, reduction of non-tariff barriers and strengthened regulatory cooperation.
She explained that Nigeria hosted the Secretary-General of the AfCFTA Secretariat alongside Nigerian digital operators to deepen collaboration between continental institutions and the private sector.
According to the minister, the engagement strengthened accountability, clarified institutional roles and improved coherence among agencies implementing the AfCFTA framework.
Dr. Oduwole assured that the ministry would continue to prioritise regulatory alignment, expand exports and position Nigeria as a major production and distribution hub under the AfCFTA.
