The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied reports claiming it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.
The Commission described the reports as false and misleading in a statement signed by the Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan.
According to the statement, INEC has not issued any timetable for the 2027 polls and urged the public to disregard the circulating information.
INEC emphasized that it operates strictly within the provisions of the law, particularly Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which stipulates that the Commission shall publish a notice of election not later than 360 days before the date appointed for a general election.
The Commission added that any timetable or schedule released outside this statutory timeframe cannot originate from INEC.
