2027 Race: ADC Raises #230m in Imo, Moghalu Warns Opposition

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Imo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) raised ₦230 million at its maiden stakeholders’ summit held in Owerri, signalling an early financial and organisational push to challenge the ruling party.

The summit, chaired by former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa, attracted key political figures including ex-governor Emeka Ihedioha, state party chairman Prof. James Okoroma, party executives, professionals, business leaders and clerics.

Udenwa urged members to embrace unity, peace and discipline, describing collective responsibility as critical to electoral success.

Expressing confidence in the party’s growing strength, Udenwa said the calibre of Nigerians joining the ADC positions it strongly for victories at both state and national levels.

He maintained that with cohesion and strategic organisation, the party could unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Also speaking, Ihedioha called on party members to intensify their commitment to building a “winning political machine.”

He appealed for sustained financial support from stakeholders, the business community and Imo indigenes in the diaspora, stressing that resources would be vital to effective mobilisation and overcoming political obstacles.

Meanwhile, former APC chieftain and Labour Party governorship candidate in Anambra, George Moghalu, cautioned that removing President Bola Tinubu and the APC would not be easy.

He said opposition parties currently lack the unity required to defeat an incumbent, recalling that the APC itself only succeeded in 2015 after merging diverse opposition forces behind a common purpose.
