The Federal Government has announced plans to establish functional fire stations across public tertiary institutions in Nigeria to enhance fire prevention, emergency response, and the protection of lives and national assets within the education sector.
The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Mr Samuel Adeyemi, disclosed this during the decoration ceremony of newly promoted senior officers at the service’s headquarters in Abuja.
Mr Adeyemi said the initiative, which is being pursued through strategic collaboration with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), will cover universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country.
According to him, the project is part of ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the Federal Fire Service for improved efficiency, sustained operational readiness, and effective public safety delivery.
He added that the move aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration, stressing that strengthening fire safety infrastructure within educational institutions is critical to safeguarding students, staff, and public assets.
