Agemowo Monarch Mourns Akran of Badagry, Hails Legacy of Peace

His Royal Majesty, Aholu Jonah Solomon Egbenayon, The Jakavi I, Owa Ajaka of Agemowo Kingdom, has joined mourners across the world and the entire Ogu race in mourning the passing of His Imperial Majesty, De-Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, the Akran of Badagry Kingdom.


The ancient city of Badagry and neighbouring Ogu communities were thrown into deep mourning following the official announcement of the demise of the revered monarch.

The paramount ruler, a towering custodian of tradition and a respected pillar of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, reportedly joined his ancestors on Monday, December 12, leaving a profound vacuum in the traditional leadership of the region.


The sad news resonated strongly within Agemowo Kingdom. Leading the tributes, the Agemowo monarch, in a formal condolence message, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a ruler he described as a “Revered Royal Father” whose influence transcended the boundaries of Badagry.


HRM Aholu Jonah Solomon Egbenayon praised the late Akran for his unwavering commitment to peace, stability, and unity across the Badagry Division.

He noted that the Akran’s reign was marked by tireless efforts at fostering harmony among traditional institutions, describing him as a bridge-builder whose leadership preserved the cultural cohesion of Lagos State’s coastal communities.


Reflecting on the personal impact of the late monarch, the Owa Ajaka of Agemowo Kingdom described him as a mentor and father figure to many traditional rulers.

“He lived by noble example and touched countless lives through his wisdom, humility, and leadership,” he said.


As funeral rites are expected to commence in line with the sacred traditions of the Badagry Kingdom, the people of Agemowo and the wider Ogu community stand united in honouring the memory of a monarch whose enduring legacy of service and peace will be cherished for generations.
