APFFLON Raises Alarm Over Upward Review of Cargo Charges

The Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON) has joined key aviation industry stakeholders, in rejecting the hike in cargo charges, introduced by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN.

APFFLON in a statement by its President, Chief Frank Ogunojemite, condemned the upward review of cargo charges from ₦7 to ₦20 per kilogram, effective 2nd February 2026, despite the subvention and other revenue streams available to FAAN.

Chief Ogunojemite explained that the increase comes against the advice of key industry stakeholders and will significantly escalate the cost of air cargo operations, discourage exports, increase import costs, and ultimately place additional pressure on Nigerian businesses and consumers.

APFFLON President questioned the rationale behind the “sharp increment”, especially in the absence of corresponding infrastructure upgrades and service improvements, and at a time when government policy is aimed at reducing the cost of doing business in Nigeria.

He therefore called on FAAN and the Federal Government to urgently review and suspend this decision in the interest of trade facilitation, economic stability, and national competitiveness.
