The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a partial closure of Kara Bridge on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway from Monday, February nine, to repair damaged expansion joints on the bridge.
The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Mr Komolafe Olayiwola, made the announcement during a media briefing on Kara Bridge, held to sensitise the public on the importance of repairing the expansion joints on Kara, Punch and Magboro bridges.
Mr Olayiwola said repairs on half of each side of the bridge were carried out last year but suspended due to traffic congestion complaints, hence the renewed public sensitisation ahead of the continuation of work.
On his part, the General Manager of CBC, the contractors handling the project, Mr. Andy Guan, explained that each bridge has two expansion joints, with repairs on each expected to last one week.
Mr. Guan assured the public of durable work, noting that repairs will be carried out only during the day for security reasons.
On traffic management, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Lagos Sector Commander, Mr. Kehinde Hamzat, said repairs would be carried out simultaneously on the expansion joints to reduce the duration of the closure.
Mr. Hamzat noted that the FRSC will be working with other agencies to manage traffic, warning that motorists driving against traffic will be arrested and prosecuted.
