NAFDAC Debunks Story on Suspension of Sachet Alcohol Enforcement

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dismissed as false a publication alleging that the Federal Government directed the agency to suspend enforcement actions on sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottle alcoholic products.

‎In a press release signed by its Director General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC described the report as misleading and not reflective of any official communication from the Federal Government.

‎The agency stated that it operates strictly within its statutory mandate and in line with formally communicated government policies and directives.

It stressed that at no time has it received any directive ordering the suspension of its regulatory or enforcement activities concerning sachet alcohol products.

NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health, ensuring regulatory compliance, and carrying out its responsibilities transparently and in accordance with established laws and due process.

It noted that any decision affecting national regulatory actions would be communicated through official government channels.

The agency urged members of the public, industry stakeholders and the media to disregard the publication and rely only on verified information released through NAFDAC’s official platforms and authorised government communication channels.

It also cautioned against the spread of unverified information capable of creating unnecessary public anxiety, economic uncertainty, or misinterpretation of government policy.

NAFDAC reiterated its resolve to protect public health while promoting economic stability and national interest.
